2. Abdals Festival Maden In Mamak 11/10/2011

2. Abdals Festival was maden in Mamak district of Ankara with the contributions of Mamak Municipality and Hüseyin Gazi Culture Association and Foundation in September 21, 2011. Abdal musicians prepared excellent drum shows for the festival in the area in where mausoleum of Hüseyin Gazi is. A panel was also organized about Abdal culture.

Various specialities of Abdal culture were explained in the panel named "Who are Abdals, Where they came from, How do they live" which organized with participation of professor Ahmet Taşkın and author Hamza Aksüt. Representatives of Culture and Tourism Ministry, president of Abdal association Ali Emektar, representative of different political parties and citizens more 2000 participated the festival. There was a great enthusiasm in the festival in where Hakan Taşıyan and many Abdal musicians gave concerts.

Abdals who live in various regions of Anatolia and Middle Asia are one of most crowded communities who are identifed as Gypsy. Abdals who subsist on basket weawing, blacksmithing, musicianship, folk medicine traditionally have their own language named Abdoldili or Teberdili. This language have similar grammatical characteristic of ural altaic languages and a lexicon including words from various languages. There are only few people speaking Teberdili today. Abdals live in their own neighbourhood in central Anatolia. They live together with other Gypsy groups like Roma and loms in western regions of Turkey.
