Abdals' Music Group Promoted Kırşehir On TRT 13/12/2011

Abdal Community Music Group was at the centre of the tv program named "Yerinde Konuşuyoruz" (We speak at the place) published on TRT (Official Turkish Television) in December, 2th. While Abdals showed the best examples of Abdal music culture, the other participants introduced historical and cultural features of Kırşehir in the program.

The tv program named "Yerinde Konuşuyoruz" which was prepared by Şakir Gürel in Kırşehir Ahi Evran University Physical Medicine and Rehabilition Saloon mediated Kırşehir and people living in Kırşehir to be promoted. Folk dance group of Kırşehir provincial directorate for national education performed in the program besides Abdal Community Music Group.

Abdals are members of an ethnic group originated from Central Asia who accepted Gypsy Ways of Subsistence. Abdals who are one of the most crowded groups identified as Gypsy by surrounding populations live in almost each city especially in central and eastern Anatolia. The most known Abdal occupations are blacksmithing, basketmaking, musicianship, healing, circumcising which are believed to be typical examples of Gypsy occupations in Anatolia. Kırşehir which is the most important settlement of Abdal community in central Anatolia is also the home town of Neşet Ertaş, the famous Abdal minstrel.
