A Roma Neighbourhood Will Be Built In Agva 25/10/2011
It's claimed that 88 new house will be built in Yeni Mahala of Agva for Roma Gypsies by Mass Housing Administration (TOKİ). The Roma Neighbourhood Project which have been designed will be done with partnership of TOKİ and İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality. It's said that the houses will be built in Yeni Mahala is planned to be 2-3 storey.
The present Gypsy settlement of Agva is open to flood hazard. Whenever it rains strongly, houses are being destroyed by flood. In the context of the project which is claimed to be designed to solve the problem, some shops and recreational facilities will be built besides 88 houses in Agva. There will be 3000 square metre green belt in the neighbourhood which will be built on a land 13800 square metre.
Roma Gypsies want payment conditions for the new houses to be declared clearly altough they are happy with the idea to live in better housing conditions. Resident underline that most of them have low income and it's strongly possible that they would have difficulties to pay taxes of houses. They ask authorities to explain conditions them clearly.
