Urban Transformation In Çaybaşı 17/11/2011
İzmir Metropolitan Municipality declared 7 hectare in Çaybaşı Neighbourhood in where Roma Gypsies live as urban transformation area. Approval for the project presented to the cabinet officers is being waited now. However, residents who will be influenced by the project claim that it won't be possible for them to pay taxex for new houses.
Residents who subsist on paper and scrap collecting underline that their incomes have been decreased and they sometimes face starvation. Citizens, who emphasize that they wouldn't be able to pay any taxex if the municipality demands it for the new houses will be built in the area, won't incur a debt without having a regular job.
Scholars who evaluate the issue remind that local authorities have to consider culture, subsistence and traditions of citizens who will be influenced by urban transformation projects while they prepare projects. At this point, they underline that obligating people to pay taxex bigger than their monthly incomes will create huge social problems.
