There Was An Eviction In Küçükbakkalköy Towards Morning 28/06/2011

Tents and shacks in where families with Roma and Abdal origin lived were demolished by city police in Küçükbakkalköy which is one of the oldest Gypsy settlements of İstanbul at 06.00 today. One of the residents whose houses were demolished and who needs respirator to live asked authorities to help her. She has no possibility to work and needs to benefit from state assistance.

An anxious wait had been started for Küçükbakkalköy residents who were informed that their houses and tents would be demolished resident almost 1 month ago. Citizens, who have noplace to stay and who have no possibility to rent houses except Gypsy settlements, looked for suitable slums in surrounding Gypsy settlements and empty areas to pitch their tents. Anxious wait turned to sadness when demolition team came to the neighbourhood at 06.00 o'clock. Most of the tents and shacks in the neighbourhood were demolished and people went to their temporary harbours in various Gypsy settlements. Residents ask authorities to help a woman who needs respirator to live. Her house was also demolished.
