Food Prepared By Gypsies Is Inedible 25/03/2011

An incident claimed to be existed in kindergarden of Fevzi Çakmak Elementary School in Malkara district of Tekirdağ gets reaction from publicity. Parents of the children who go to the kindergarden prepare food for the children alternately. When it comes to mother of a Gypsy child H.B, one of teachers of kindergarden offered her to receive food from outside, not to prepare at their home. The mother asked for reason of the offer. The teacher answered the question with those words: "Because you are Gypsy.". It's said that there is an other Gypsy child in the kindergarden and they are also very sad because of the incident.

If the allegations are true, it means some ancient prejudices still exist. There were some myths among non-Gypsy people claiming that food prepared by Gypsies is inedible. Parents of H.B, who emphasized that they won't ignore the incident and they will take legal action against the teacher, summitted a petition to district national education directorate to complain the teacher. Father of H. B, D.B, evaluated the issue with those words: "Teacher who will educate our children shouldn't have this mentality. The incident disappointed us. We are waiting a positive reaction from administrators. We will seek our rights legal ways." It's said that people of Malkara are really anxious because of the incident.
