Pedlars Are In Trouble In Ereğli 18/11/2011
A new practice started 7 days ago in Ereğli by the municipality leave citizens who are obliged to sell various production on the street in a difficult situation. Firstly pedlars are being warned not to work in the context of the practice. Pedlars who insist on working despite the warning of municipality are being photographed and punished by municipality.
Many citizens living in Ereğli subsist on selling various productions on the street. Abdal Gypsies who come to district bazaar with a bus sell scouring pad, raticide, needle and thread, rubber, chintz. Roma Gypsies are specialised on selling socks, cheap dress, glove, handcrafts and toys. Some other citizens who come from villages and center of Ereğli besides Gypsies subsist on peddling and sell scraps, smalls, fish. Many citizens who don't have a regular job and income say that they have no alternative to subsist except peddling.
A citizen who is influenced by the practice of the municipality started 7 days ago subsist on selling compass rose toys he produced. The citizen, who says that municipality officers hindered him to work although he sells compass rose in a stroller in an area smaller than 1 square metre, underlines that they have no other way to subsist and the municipality have to offer them a regular job if they are determined to hinder pedlars.
An other problem of citizens living in Ereğli is that shoeshine parlors, which were destroyed for stream improvement of Pençes River(The river was near the shoeshine parlors) 4 years ago, are still not rebuilded although stream improvement process is completed. Citizens who subsisted on shoe shining in closed saloons before are trying to work in the street under hard conditions now. It's too difficult making subsisting on shoe shining especially in winters.
Residents of Ereğli hope the municipality engage in dialogue with them and to find solutions for their problems.
