Gypsies' Tents are Burnt in Bakırköy 06/11/2009

Tents around Bakırköy D-100 highway, which were built by Roma, were burnt by municipal police. Gypsies could not control their tears, when they saw their burning tents.

Bakırköy Municipal Officers came to the place which tents were built upon. This place was in Osmaniye district, where there is still continuing underground road building. Officers, first, waited for Gypsies to empty their goods, and then they poured the gas upon the tents and burnt them. Many people watch this scene with tears. At the same time, some children who lived in these tents protested the burning.

People who lived in tents points out that they know that it is illegal to live in tents there, however they do not have any other alternatives. People who lost their tents demand support from the government. Their biggest concern is about upcoming winter.
