Women From Bergama Has Formed an Association 17/12/2009

Roma women living in Atmaca District in Bergama has formed the Women’s Association for Solidarity and Development of the Roma Culture.

In the opening ceremony in the 8th of December, as well as a lot of regular people, the Bergama Deputy Mayor Hüseyin Güngör, the city council member Hüseyin Tan, the Roma Associations Federation President Erdinç Çekiç, the Lüleburgaz Association President Mustafa Gökçe, the Tekirdağ Association President Suleyman Karatepe, and the Keşan Association President Ayvaz Yalaç also participated. The Association for Solidarity and Development of the Roma Culture President, Meryem Pirzola, delivering a speech at the ceremony explained their aim as to contribute to Roma women’s development in economic, cultural and social spheres and promoting the Roma culture.

The Association president, Meryem Pirzola, said that: “We have received a huge support from the Bergama Deputy Mayor and board of administration throughout the whole process of forming this association, including this space given to us for our activities. I’m thankful to all of these people supporting us.” The opening ceremony ended with the entertaining show of some young people.
